At last I am so proud to share with you photos from my son’s beautiful Vintage barefoot wedding. I was honoured to have my desserts and styling featured in the March edition of the popular Party magazine Confetti Fair, and therefore needed to wait until it was published before I put the photos on my blog.

Bohemian Chic wedding cake
Wow! …is all I can say about the incredibly fabulous colour palette chosen by the stunning bride who ordered this cake. It has been almost 23 years since I had to make a colour choice for my wedding, and I hang my head in shame as I admit that I only got as far as …wait for it…….yes,
burgundy.
I know. There are no excuses for a colour like that. Ever.
My only concession , which my bridesmaid recently pointed out to me when I was lamenting the hideous colour scheme I chose for my wedding, was that we got married in the early 90’s, which is basically the tail end of the 80’s and burgundy was the hot colour of the Federation fad. Remember federation green….? SO I was actually right on trend. That made me feel better….sort of.
Anyway…oh if I could only do my wedding all over again! How many 80’s/90’s brides have made that wish?! My point being that this sexy shimmery hot pink would probably hit the top of my list. I adore everything about this colour scheme. Bohemian chic/ berrylicious/deep pinks/shimmers of gold….absolutely stunning. I have no photos of the bridal party, so the cake will have to suffice. But trust me when I say the whole wedding was brilliant. It was set to take place in a picturesque garden, but unfortunately rain forced us all inside. Let me say there was grief. I was going to set up the dessert tables under a sprawling tree, using suspended wooden slabs tied with crocheted ropes hanging from a branch to hold the cupcakes. I bought the most glamorous hot pink shimmery sequin tablecloth and the coolest deep pink 70’s brocade bedspread to use as another cloth over my tables. It was all set to look spectacular.
My heart went out to the bride. Actually, my heart broke for the mother of the bride. She had worked tirelessly preparing all the food, thinking through every detail and setting up every element of all of the food and drink stations. She is nothing short of a legend really.
And it rained. Far from the greatest disaster in the world, but right up near the top of the wedding disaster list. After a few tears, hugs and reassurance, we all set to work to whip up a sensational indoor wedding and reception at the same venue. All worked out well in the end, as it usually does. The bride, as I mentioned before, was like a shining angel. She was beaming and the whole occasion was a privilege to be a part of.
So without further ado, here is my Bohemian chic wedding cake, complete with gold paint and feathers. Thank you dearest Amy, for letting me be a part of such a wonderful day.

Naked wedding cake
Hello there friends. Life is chugging along at an increasingly hectic pace here in Mama Bear’s Kitchen. With only 8 weeks left until THE wedding of the year, it’s all hands on deck to get through that mammoth list of things to do. Time to wash the tea cups, find all of those buntings, and try really really hard to think through all of those teeny tiny details that will make this wedding an event to remember!
A sweet engagement
As you are aware, our oldest son is getting married this year. I was delighted to be a part of their gorgeous vintage engagement shoot a few months ago. The happy couple didn’t really want a large engagement party, but rather a small gathering of some of their friends. I happened to have my lovely vintage doors still set up from my Ladies tea party so I just changed the colour scheme and added a few vintage bits and pieces to create this simple dessert display. I found a cheap 70’s dresser at the op shop, which I will give to my son after the wedding. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be the perfect drink station. A simple buttercream cake adorned with flowers and some sweet daisy cupcakes on vintage props made up the desserts. This was a very easy display to set up. You don’t need a lot of food to make a dessert table look fabulous. Sometimes less is more if you have an intimate gathering of friends. Just put your effort into creating a simple backdrop, a splash of colour and hunt around your home for some matching vintage pieces.
Here comes the Bride
After our little Fairies played in the garden for a couple of hours, it was finally time for the bridal procession to begin. There were some very excited flower girls, and although Kitty got a bit confused about which way to walk, everything else was perfect. The girl’s beautiful cousin Amanda was beaming the whole time. It was truly a privilege to be a part of it all.

Engagement photo shoot. Part 1
Last week I was delighted to be a part of organising a romantic afternoon tea for a special young couple who were getting engaged. The groom- to- be enlisted my help in setting up a pretty tea table out in a wooded grove where he surprised his sweet girl and asked for her hand in marriage. As you may notice from the photos, the location was actually an old historical cemetery – not the first place you would imagine proposing to your girlfriend! But this grove was beautiful. It was a private, shady hideaway that oozed charm and character. The requested colour was yellow, with a distinctly vintage feel. The bride-to-be loves chocolate and peanut butter, and so the afternoon tea was a simple affair, with my own Chunky Monkey cupcakes, chips and dip (her favourite snack food), and peanut butter chocolate. Perhaps the most exciting element of the table was the placement of the engagement ring. I have an old silver dish with a lid that slides over the top. I tied the gorgeous ring with yellow string and laid it on a bed of crocheted doilies to be discovered by the lovely lady. It was all very romantic. For the props, I strung a few of my handmade doily hoops from the trees, along with some old timber frames and a yellow fabric garland. Other vintage props were scattered around the setting.
The stage is set. Stay tuned to see what happens next!!
