My Nanna was one in a million. She was everything a grandmother should be, and then some. She was warm and affectionate, loving and full of life. She always had time for us. She was always welcoming and generous.

Scones & school friends
Spending time with an old friend was a refreshing experience for me last week. We don’t often see each other, and I am not usually the one saying “yes please” to an offer of a cup of tea. More often than not I am busy bustling around serving the tea and cake. It was such a treat to plonk myself down, pick up one of her deeelicious pumpkin scones and enjoy the familiar comfort of deep friendship. Ohh yes!
Vintage tea party
Last week our family hosted a vintage tea party to raise funds for our two oldest children’s overseas mission trips to India and Samoa later this year.
Concerning Hobbits
“We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures.
Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things!
Make you late for dinner!!”
-The Hobbit
Earlier this year we honoured our beautiful daughter on her 16th birthday.
As we are all arduous Tolkien fans, there was no question as to the theme of this event…
..and what an event it was!
Welcome to the Shire!
“If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold,
it would be a merrier world.”
” Bilbo had a horrible thought that the cakes might run short, and then he,
– as the host: he knew his duty and stuck to it, however painful-
he might have to go without!”
The bottom layer of the cake was carrot and walnut,
with chocolate sour cream cake on the top.
I was really pleased with how well the cake turned out and thought it suited the theme beautifully.
“The road goes ever on and on
Under cloud and under star,
Yet feet that wandering have gone
Turn at last to home afar.”
Happy 16th Birthday precious daughter…..
and
“May the hair on your toes never fall out!!”
We all love you.

Reach for the sky!!
We have an impressive line up of milestone birthdays this year.
Last week our eldest son turned 18.
I know it may seem a tad ridiculous, but we love Woody and Buzz.
One of our son’s first toys was a Buzz Lightyear.
When I timidly suggested this cake for his party, I was pleasantly surprised by his enthusiasm.
