My husband is usually the lucky parent who takes two of our children to interstate Taekwondo championships while I tend to the little ones at home. However, when I found out they had a tournament in Melbourne on my birthday, I quickly put my hand up to take them. Living up in the coastal sub tropics, I crave cold weather and culture. I would feel very much at home living in Melbourne, surrounded by galleries, museums, libraries, quirky cafes and eclectic vintage collectors.

Vintage Barefoot Wedding – Part 6 : The ceremony
This is it. At long last here is the beautiful vintage barefoot wedding of my son and his precious new bride. I hope you have enjoyed walking through each element of this journey with me. It has certainly been an adventure. I was honoured to be so intimately involved with the organisation of this wedding, not to mention revelling in my Happy Place as chief dessert stylist. ( You can see my previous wedding posts here: Sweets table, Dessert table, Drinks station, Finishing touches and Getting ready )
Vintage barefoot wedding – Part 5 : Getting ready
I guess every mother feels the same when her child gets married, but I confess as I sat looking through these photos to prepare this post, I was fighting back tears the whole time. So many different emotions were rising up from deep within me. Firstly, such an overwhelming love for my brand new Daughter – in – Love, Chloe. She is truly so beautiful and so dear to my heart. I am thankful to God for hand picking her to join our family, and so happy that my son has found so rich a treasure.
Vintage Barefoot Wedding – Part 4 : Finishing touches
Here we are in the final stages of preparation for our family wedding of the year! Everything is in it’s place, the finishing touches are being made and we are all set to go. I am getting excited about showing you the beautiful ceremony, which will be my next blog post. Hooray! For now, here is an overview of the marquee so you can see the bigger picture of how our reception area came together with all of the dessert, sweets and drinks stations.
Vintage Barefoot Wedding – Part 2: The Dessert Table
The main dessert table for our son’s Vintage barefoot wedding was the centrepiece of the whole reception. I used three old doors as the backdrop, with doily bunting draped across them. I used my vintage yellow fabric to make panels for the glass door in the middle, which tied in with the Sweets table, bringing cohesion to the theme. I also used a gorgeous yellow chenille bedspread as the tablecloth. White wooden letters saying SWEET AS brought a touch of fun to the display.
Vintage barefoot wedding -Part 1:The Sweets table
At last I am so proud to share with you photos from my son’s beautiful Vintage barefoot wedding. I was honoured to have my desserts and styling featured in the March edition of the popular Party magazine Confetti Fair, and therefore needed to wait until it was published before I put the photos on my blog.
Vintage Kitten party inspiration
My baby turns four tomorrow. I can hardly believe it. I have been pretty much giving birth every two years since 1995 (21 years ago!) and as crazy as it sounds, I honestly didn’t think our sweet little girl Kitty would be our last baby. I am one of those mothers who love having babies so much that I could never imagine ever having my last.
Rustic Easter table
Easter has come and gone for another year. I had been planning this rustic Easter display in my head for months, gathering bits and pieces from all over my house like a little bower bird. I knew I wanted it set up in front of our chicken pen and had been meticulously watching the movements of the sun in our yard to ensure I had just the right light when I whipped out my camera. As it happens, I came down with the flu over the Easter weekend, so we had a very belated Easter egg hunt with our precious kiddies and their friends. They were all very gracious and didn’t seem to mind waiting an extra week for their Easter eggs.
A sweet engagement
As you are aware, our oldest son is getting married this year. I was delighted to be a part of their gorgeous vintage engagement shoot a few months ago. The happy couple didn’t really want a large engagement party, but rather a small gathering of some of their friends. I happened to have my lovely vintage doors still set up from my Ladies tea party so I just changed the colour scheme and added a few vintage bits and pieces to create this simple dessert display. I found a cheap 70’s dresser at the op shop, which I will give to my son after the wedding. As soon as I saw it I knew it would be the perfect drink station. A simple buttercream cake adorned with flowers and some sweet daisy cupcakes on vintage props made up the desserts. This was a very easy display to set up. You don’t need a lot of food to make a dessert table look fabulous. Sometimes less is more if you have an intimate gathering of friends. Just put your effort into creating a simple backdrop, a splash of colour and hunt around your home for some matching vintage pieces.
Here comes the Bride
After our little Fairies played in the garden for a couple of hours, it was finally time for the bridal procession to begin. There were some very excited flower girls, and although Kitty got a bit confused about which way to walk, everything else was perfect. The girl’s beautiful cousin Amanda was beaming the whole time. It was truly a privilege to be a part of it all.
